Auditory Language Comprehension in Aphasia


Abstract
Effective communication between patient and staff, including therapist, nurse, physicians and family members, is critical to the success of any rehabilitation program.
However, due to auditory comprehension deficits, severly aphasic persons are often unable to follow directions given to them in the therapeutic setting.
This paper is to introduce of aphasia research literatures in the area of auditory languages comprehension. The review of the literature reveals that auditory language comprehension is multidimensional, and numerous factors influence auditory comprehension in aphasic individuals, including stimulus saliency, stimulus redundancy, rate of presentation of stimuli, syntactic complexity, semantic complexity, and context.
